The Most Anticipated Movies of 2012
_
2011 if finally over, and it has proven to be one of the most profitable years in film history. 2011 will forever be known as The Year of the Sequel, as 8 out of the top 10 grossing movies of the year were sequels, and the other two were superhero movies. This growing influx of sequels and superhero movies clearly shows one thing: Hollywood has run out of ideas. The Inceptions, Black Swans, and Shutter Islands of 2010 have disappearing, paving the way for top grossing 2011 movies such as Fast Five, Harry Potter 8,and Twilight 4. The future of the film industry looks bleak at this time, but hopefully in 2012 Hollywood can develop some original ideas that don’t get turned into Disney movies. Even though most of them are sequels, these look to be the best movies of 2012.

Prometheus – June 8th, 2012
You honestly can’t go wrong with a Ridley Scott sci-fi movie. The man is a machine, and with newly added parts like Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce, I really don’t see any way this movie can be bad. Prometheus, like almost every space movie ever made, is named after the film’s spaceship, “The Prometheus”. People have been saying that this is a prequel Scott’s famous Alien movie franchise, however recently it has been confirmed that this movie, while containing many allusions to the sci-fi series, will be an original film. (Honestly, do we really need another Alien movie? AVP was brutal.) Based on this film’s amazing cast, the absolutely remarkable trailer already released for this movie, and the fact that Ridley Scott has never made a bad sci-fi movie, expect it to be one of the best films of the year. |

Dark Knight Rises – July 20th, 2012
Christopher Nolan’s epic conclusion to his critically-acclaimed Batman trilogy hits theatres on July 20th. This looks to be one of the best, if not the best, movie of 2012. The bar has already been set extremely high for these movies, as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight have already been dubbed as two of the best superhero movies of all time. These movies have had a reputation for being high-budget, star-studded films; and this years addition certainly looks to be no exception. Returning actors Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman are joined by this year’s new additions of Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Anne Hathaway. Based on the $250 million spent of this movie, the star-studded cast, and the fact that it is directed by Christopher Nolan, this movie looks to be the best Batman movie ever made, and probably the best movie of 2012. |

The Bourne Legacy – August 3rd, 2012
Any time Jeremy Renner is in a movie where he is holding a gun, I am definitely going to pay my twelve dollars to see it on the big screen. Renner looks like the most badass soldier to ever exist, most notable in the films The Hurt Locker, S.W.A.T., 28 Weeks Later, and The Town. Combine Renner’s sheer badassness with the amazing acting talent of one Edward Norton, and you have a formula for success. Also, it doesn’t hurt to have a returning veteran Bourne cast of Joan Allen, Albert Finney, and David Strathairn. The Bourne trilogy has been one of my favorite action movie series of all time; however I honestly believe that this movie will be better than all three of its predecessors. I know that’s a bold statement because sequels are rarely better than their prequels, but the superb cast this movie has to offer cannot be denied. |

_ Skyfall
– November 9th, 2012
Skyfall will be the third James Bond movie featuring lead-man Daniel Craig. This highly anticipated sequel will certainly not be the last Craig collaboration Bond movie, as the 43 year old actor has already signed on to do 5 more sequels. Producer Michael G. Wilson stated that he loves Craig as Bond, and would love him to do 5 more Bond movies to surpass the currently record of 7 held by Roger Moore. Surprisingly, Skyfall will not follow the storyline set up by prior Craig movies Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, instead it will offshoot into a new storyline mainly centered around Judi Dench’s character of M. Famous villain-playing actors Ralph Fiennes and Javiar Bardem have signed on for this movie, however it has not yet been stated which famous Bond characters they will be portraying. Also new to sign on to this movie is Sam Mendes, the Academy-Award winning director of movies such as American Beauty and Jarhead. Mendes will be the first Academy-Award winning James Bond director, a huge achievement for the long-lasting franchise. With great additions to acting, directing, and writing, this looks to be one of the best Bond movies ever made, and hopefully Skyfall can live up to its expectations. |

The
Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – December 14th, 2012
The fourth installment of Peter Jackson’s Academy Award winning Lord of the Rings franchise hit theatres on December 14th. This long awaited chapter has been in production for the last year and a half, and will finish filming in March 2012. This series is regarded by many critics as the best film series of all time. Playing the part of a young Bilbo Baggins will be British film star Martin Freeman. Freeman has already shown his incredible acting potential in TV series such Sherlock and The Office, so I expect an Oscar-worth performance from the 5'7" front-man.With a huge returning cast and a blank check for a budget, this movie has the potential to revive the madness caused by its prequels. This movie went through countless obstacles during pre-production, as one-time director Guillermo del Toro quit, present director and producer Peter Jackson was hospitalized with an perforated ulcer, and the project was on the brink of bankruptcy. With all of these obstacles out of the way, it looks to be smooth sailing for the production of this movie, and hopefully it will be as good as or better than any of its last three prequels. |

Django Unchained – December 25th, 2012
The Big Chin is back; finally releasing the details of his first long awaited movie project since his blood-soaked WWII thriller Inglourious Basterds. Since Tarantino obviously hasn’t lost his touch, I honestly expect Django Unchained to be one of the greatest movies of our modern generation. This is an extremely bold statement for a movie not even halfway through filming, but with the incredible cast this film has to offer, and its amazingly awesome storyline of a western revenge movie centered on a slave, the sky is the limit for Django Unchained. Reading the cast for this movie on IMDb gives me the chills: Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, RZA (Hell yeah Wu-Tang), and James Remar.. Whoa that is a huge cast! This movie better be good or I will freak. |
